OSHA offers info on keeping workers safe during the holiday rush

Washington — OSHA is calling attention to its webpage featuring links to important safety topics for holiday-centric workers, including employees in retail and warehousing.

For this group and their employers, the agency’s two tip sheets focus on crowd management and workplace violence prevention. For employers and workers involved in order fulfillment, OSHA has tips on ergonomics, forklift safety (in English and Spanish) and warehousing.

For delivery drivers, OSHA offers information on safe practices when driving and once they arrive at a destination (both in English and Spanish), as well as one on winter weather hazards/precautions.

The page also includes a section for all workplaces, with links covering:

  • Training
  • Workers’ rights
  • Temporary/seasonal workers
  • Workplace stress
  • Young workers

Finally, the page also has a link to the video, 9 tips to protect workers during the holidays, published last year on the Department of Labor’s YouTube page.

“As the nation enters the holiday shopping season, employers must ensure that all workers are trained to recognize and prevent job hazards and implement safe work practices,” the agency says. “OSHA has resources to help keep workers safe at every step, whether you’re working at a retail store or delivering gifts from the warehouse to homes.”
