Construction workers at the Ellinikon project on Athens’ southern coast have called a 24-hour strike for Monday following a serious accident involving three workers at the casino site.
The workers’ union announced a work stoppage over the weekend and a full strike on Monday to protest unsafe conditions and demand better safety measures. Workers are set to gather at 10 a.m. at the Terna worksite near the casino, followed by a noon rally outside Lamda Development’s offices for a scheduled meeting with the employer.
The strike follows a scaffolding collapse on Friday that injured three workers, one critically. The union blames unsafe practices, including improper crane use to move scaffolding, and accused the employer of prioritizing speed and profit over safety. They also claimed company representatives fled the site when police arrived. [AMNA.]
