- Three examples of Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ fully-electric eActros 600 units helped to enable UK band Massive Attack to put on a 100% battery electric set at East London’s LIDO Festival, as the band looks towards making live music a sustainable activity for generations to come.
- Alongside the fully-electric trucks assisting on the logistical side, on-site power for the event for equipment such as lighting and sound, was also powered entirely by batteries.
- With each electric truck capable of travelling over 500 kilometres on a single charge, this feat once again proves that the use case for electric HGVs is just as wide as their diesel-powered counterparts.
Massive Attack puts on its second fully battery-powered performance
The move to put on a net-zero music event, and prove successfully to the rest of the live music industry that it can be done, is a significant milestone. Massive Attack’s headline act is estimated to have reduced carbon emissions related to the event by an impressive 50 tonnes. Massive Attack tour manager Jamal Chalabi said that ‘electrification and the elimination of fossil fuels must become top priorities for every band’.
It’s not the first time we’ve seen a battery-powered event from the increasingly sustainability-minded Massive Attack. In August last year, the band ran its first battery-powered gig in Bristol, which in addition to electrification, also included plant-based food catering, compostable loos, and an encouragement for guests to arrive by more sustainable means of transport.
Electric trucks are rising in popularity both in the UK and globally, and good publicity such as this is just what’s needed to push other fleet operators over the line in their decision to adopt electric trucks.
Stuart Jeggo, Sales & Marketing Manager at Daimler Truck UK, commented:
“Live music relies heavily on the transportation and logistics sector to make these events possible in different locations. We are very pleased that the performance and range of the all-electric eActros has helped to significantly reduce the environmental impact of The LIDO Festival. This is only the start of the work we are doing with the music industry as a whole, and an exciting step forward for the future of sustainable live music events, which is good news for everyone – and the planet.
Daimler Truck UK is very grateful to its dealer partners — Euro Commercials, Mertrux Truck & Van, Northside Truck & Van, and Rygor Auto — for providing the eActros 600 trucks. Their support played a key role in shaping the LIDO Festival’s green logistics efforts and advancing our shared commitment to sustainable transport.”
