The region’s food business operators are encouraged to sign up to Bundaberg Regional Council’s food safety initiative to help meet safety standards.
Think Food Safe is a voluntary program that equips businesses with tools and processes to consistently maintain high food safety standards.
Among incentives to join the program are a discount in the annual licence fee and reduced frequency of inspection by Council officers.
Council’s Community, Liveability, Sport and Recreation portfolio spokesperson Councillor Carmen McEneany said the program had a lot of benefits for the business and the community.
“Businesses that join the program and display the Think Food Safe logo in-store are demonstrating to their customers that they care about providing their service at a high standard,” Cr McEneany said.
“The monitoring and self-assessment program helps businesses to maintain those high standards and identify any food safety issues in their practices.”
Cr McEneany said all food outlets were required to adhere to the Australian Food Safety Standards, with the Think Food Safe program providing operators resources to meet their obligations.
“By providing tools to help businesses meet their responsibilities under the Food Safety Standard, the program provides confidence to the community that food operators are compliant,” she said.
“Customers can look for the green Think Food Safe sticker and relax, eat safe and enjoy, in the knowledge that the business is committed to maintaining an elevated standard of food safety.”
Local businesses interested in joining the Think Food Safe program can find more information about the benefits and requirements, including record-keeping duties, on Council’s website.
