The Impact of an HSE Manager on Workplace Safety

“Reducing the risk is the ‘what’ and culture is the ‘how’. If we get both right, we not only prevent incidents, but we also enable people and that’s when safety becomes sustainable.”

Can you describe a typical day in your role as an HSE professional?

My role as an HSE Manager is all about reducing risk and nurturing a strong safety culture – that’s the foundation. Every day, I am focused on ensuring our people are safe and that we are constantly improving the way we work. This means being out on the floor, understanding what is happening in real time, and helping teams recognize and manage risk before they turn into incidents.

My day also has me working behind the scenes, making sure the right programs are in place, aligning with our Bakery’s broader goals, and making sure safety help us perform, not just comply. But none of this can stick unless we build a culture people believe in. The central part of my work is about leading by example, developing others, and shaping a mindset where safety is just how we do things – not something separate from the job. Reducing the risk is the ‘what’ and culture is the ‘how’. If we get both right, we not only prevent incidents, but we also enable people and that’s when safety becomes sustainable.

How does your work contribute to Mondelēz International’s overall mission and values?

My work in HSE supports our mission to lead the future of snaking by making sure every snack is made the right way – safely, responsibly, and sustainably. It’s how we live our values: doing what’s right by protecting people, environment, assets, and reputation; loving our consumers and brands by supporting safe, consistent operations; and growing every day through continuous improvement and culture building.

What skills are essential for someone to succeed in an HSE role at Mondelēz International?

To succeed here, you need a strong safety mindset as it is foundational to our mission. Integrity is essential, doing what’s right even when no one is watching. You need to be adaptable in a fast-paced environment, collaborate well across teams, and strive for continuous growth orientation. A commitment to quality ties it all together, ensuring everything we do meets the high standards our consumers expect.

What are you most passionate about when it comes to your work in HSE?

The single greatest passion I have as an HSE leader is a relentless drive for continuous improvement in safety culture. I am energized by elevating standards, empowering the teams I work with, and building sustainable practices. I sincerely care about everyone I serve which is why my efforts are not just about checking boxes; they are about making sure our community thrives.

What makes Mondelēz International a great place to work for HSE professionals?

I see Mondelēz as an outstanding home for HSE professionals because it a community that embraces a culture of continuous improvement and provides genuine leadership support to give you the opportunity to have real, tangible impact and opportunities for growth.
