Vice Environment Minister: Saudi Arabia Makes Strides in Vision 2030, Workplace Safety

Riyadh, May 05, 2025, SPA — Vice Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Eng. Mansour Al Mushaiti highlighted Saudi Arabia’s significant progress toward achieving Vision 2030 goals, with 93% of annual indicators met and 85% of initiatives either completed or on track, emphasizing the environment sector’s commitment to sustainability and prioritizing worker safety in all development projects.
Speaking at the Global Occupational Safety and Health Conference, held in Riyadh from May 4 to 6, Al Mushaiti underscored the Kingdom’s focus on human capital, evidenced by the establishment of the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health and the adoption of global best practices.
He highlighted the water sector’s achievement of over 190 million safe work hours and a sub-45-second response time with zero serious incidents during massive project implementation, attributed to robust safety management systems.
He outlined environmental protection efforts, including a noise and light pollution monitoring program in major cities, citing potential productivity gains of over 11%, according to the World Green Building Council.
He also highlighted the successes of the Saudi Green Initiative, which has been instrumental in planting over 141 million trees across various regions of the Kingdom, rehabilitating more than 313,000 hectares of degraded land, and protecting over 4 million hectares. These environmental advancements enhance the safety and health of workers and foster safer, more sustainable work environments, he said.
On agriculture, Al Mushaiti affirmed the ministry’s adoption of Saudi Good Agricultural Practices (G.A.P) standards, with 142 facilities accredited for safe practices, advanced pesticide control systems, and smart awareness platforms that have reduced pesticide residues to below 2%.
