UAE midday work ban starts tomorrow

The midday work break will apply daily from 12:30 PM until 3 PM

The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has implemented a work ban during the summer months where heat is at its peak. The ban will come into effect tomorrow and stay in force until September 15.

The Ministry has reiterated that it is dedicated to employee safety and is implementing the midday work break for the 19th year in a row.

“The initiative ensures a safe workplace and protects employees from heat-relate risks during summer,” the announcement read.

The decision, in line with the ministerial decision No. (44) of 2022, aims to prioritise the occupational health and safety of workers, safeguarding them from potential hazards and occupational diseases, a statement said.

The prohibition entails a limitation on daily working hours, both in the morning and evening, to a maximum of eight hours. Furthermore, employers are required to provide shaded areas to ensure the comfort of workers during the downtime.

Mohsen Al-Nasi, Assistant Undersecretary for Inspection Affairs, emphasised the importance of the decision, stating that “the health and safety of workers is a major pillar of labour market legislation.”
