BRYAN COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) – According to the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office, there has been a confirmed fatality at the Hyundai megasite Tuesday.
The call dispatched at 10:54 a.m. Tuesday morning, BCSO deputies say they were on the scene minutes later 11:02 a.m.
When deputies arrived on scene they were able to confirm that the incident had resulted in a fatality. The sheriff’s office criminal investigations division then responded to the scene to conduct a follow-up investigation.
According to the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office, preliminary findings indicated that while a truck was being onloaded, a load on a forklift became unsecured and fell. Law enforcement says the victim was on the ground nearby and was unable to move out of the way on time and was fatally hit. BCSO officials say there is no foul play being suspected at this time. The identity of the victim is being withheld while family is being notified.
WTOC reached out to Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) officials, who confirmed that this incident happened at the HL-GA Battery Company, the joint venture company between Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solutions.
Hyundai gave WTOC the following statement in regards to the incident:
LG Energy Solution and Hyundai Motor Group are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred at the HL-GA Battery Company construction site in Bryan County, Georgia on May 20, 2025. Unfortunately, an employee of a subcontractor passed away due to injuries sustained in a workplace accident.
The health and safety of everyone at our facilities and construction sites is our highest priority. Our direct employees as well as our subcontractors understand our commitment to safety and Occupational Industrial Safety and Health policies. Together with the subcontractor and relevant authorities, we are fully supporting a thorough investigation to determine the root cause of the incident and to help prevent such accidents in the future.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) says they are aware of Tuesday’s death and are investigating.
