Civil Protection Contains Massive Fire in 6th of October, Egypt after Gas Pipeline Broke

Giza Civil Protection forces were able to contain a massive fire that broke out Wednesday evening due to a broken gas pipe in 6th of October City.

The Giza Emergency Operations Room received a report of a massive fire on Al-Wahat Road in 6th of October City due to a broken gas pipe.

Firefighters were immediately notified to quickly respond to the incident.

A massive explosion occurred in the main gas pipeline, causing intense flames and smoke to rise in the vicinity.

Initial investigations revealed that several cars had been charred and caught fire at the scene following the sudden gas pipeline explosion.

According to an initial report, the accident resulted in the death of 3 people and the injury of 13 others. 8 of the injured were transferred to Sheikh Zayed Specialized Hospital, and 5 to 6th of October Central Hospital.

Gas company workers responded to the fire and dealt with it by closing the main valve to prevent the flames from spreading. The air current had helped it ignite rapidly.

Immediately, Civil Protection Forces, supported by fire trucks and ambulances, arrived at the site of the explosion and began efforts to control and contain the fire. Tight security measures were in place, and a security cordon was imposed around the area to ensure the safety of pedestrians.

The road was closed to traffic and diverted to alternative routes until the completion of firefighting and security operations.

Relevant authorities are currently investigating the causes of the explosion, while Civil Protection continues its efforts to contain the situation and prevent the flames from spreading to any nearby facilities.

Sources said that contractors were digging near the pipe when it exploded, as they didn’t have the maps of the gas pipeline.
