L&I Seeks Stakeholder Input on Proposed Updates to Workplace Safety Rules

The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) is moving forward with updates to chapter 296-800 WAC, which outlines the state’s Safety and Health Core Rules.

According to the L&I website, these revisions aim to streamline language, aligning state regulations with federal OSHA requirements and addressing workplace safety issues.

The updates under consideration include changes to WAC 296-800-13020, which governs the term lengths for safety committee members. Other proposed revisions involve addressing housekeeping and formatting inconsistencies and potentially incorporating additional changes related to workplace safety standards.

To encourage transparency and public participation, L&I is hosting two virtual stakeholder meetings. These sessions will provide an overview of the proposed rule changes, share preliminary draft language, and offer attendees the opportunity to ask questions or provide feedback.

The first meeting is scheduled for January 29, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. The second meeting will take place on February 13, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Registration is required for both events and available online for the January 29 and February 13 meetings.
